Schaefer Claims Top Spot at MCC Bowling Championships | Schools

CLINTON, Iowa--The Ashford University men's and women's bowling teams returned to action Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 9-10, when they visited Cherry Lanes for the Midwest Collegiate Conference (MCC) Bowling Championships, hosted by Clarke University.AU was the lone non-MCC team at the event, and was not able to qualify for league awards or the knockout round tournament.
The two-day event opened on Saturday with six individual games and wrapped up on Sunday with 16 baker-style scoring games. Once the dust settled, the AU women brought home third place, scoring 8,381 pins, while the men claimed sixth.
Leading the women during Saturday's action was sophomore Tricia Zimmerman who finished eighth among all individuals with 1,144 pins (190.7 average) during the six individual games. Joining Zimmerman in the top-20 were teammates Camryn Simmons and Katelyn Tharp, who tallied 1,130 (188.3 average) pins and 1,095 (182.5), respectively.
Also scoring for the women's squad was freshman Heather Wolf (968, 193.6 average), Morgan Kobitka (650, 162 average), Allison Knox (342, 171 average) and Melissa Kremer (150).
On the men's side, junior Shane Schaefer earned top accolades and received All-Tournament Team honors with his score of 1,351 (225.2 average), winning the individual portion of the event by six pins. Behind him, teammate Jared Elliott took 14th overall by knocking over 1,222 pins (203.7 average).
Other scorers on the men's side included Brandyn Andelbradt (978, 195.6 average), Ryan Lakota (945, 189 average), Zach Huff (879, 175.8 average), Ed Bowers (345 (172.5 average) and Tim Lindstrom (138).
The Saints return to the lanes Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 16-17 when the teams visit Western Bowl in Indianapolis, Ind. for the Backhaul Direct Hoosier Classic.
