New Figge Exhibit Showcases Maquoketa
News

A unique art exhibit at the Figge Art Museum in downtown, Davenport is showcasing a Quad City area community.

It’s called Portrait of Maquoketa. World renowned artist, Rose Frantzen – who is a native of Maquoketa – painted 180 portraits and a 315-square-foot landscape view of the small Iowa town.

On Saturday, November 3rd, 2012., she spent the afternoon at the Figge to demonstrate her “alla prima” approach to painting.

“At some point, I quit painting,” says Frantzen. “The painting starts to paint itself and what is the most amazing is when the model knows that and I think the model is actually helping create that atmosphere.”

You can see Portrait of Maquoketa at the Figge from now until January 30th, 2013.
