CLINTON, Iowa--Members of the Ashford University Student-Athlete Advisory Board (SAAB) are helping out needy children in Clinton County this holiday season.
The group, comprised of student-athletes from each of AU's 17 athletic programs, raised over $300 dollars to help the area's Toys for Tots campaign. Donations were gathered a dollar at a time, with every-student athlete at Ashford asked to give one dollar towards the drive.
"It's a great effort by the student-athletes to give back to the community," SAAB advisor and Head Women's Basketball Coach Amy Eagan said. "I'm very proud of our SAAB members, and hopefully we can double our donation next year to this very worthy cause."
SAAB members purchased toys and delivered them to the Clinton Salvation Army on Thursday, Dec. 6. From there, the toys will be distributed to children throughout Clinton County where, according to the Clinton Herald, more than 1,200 children have been registered to receive gifts.
If you wish to help the Toys for Tots drive, you can do so by dropping off a new, unwrapped toy to the Clinton Salvation Army or in one of the more than 20 drop boxes throughout Clinton County. The final day to donate is Thursday, Dec. 13.
Distribution will begin on Dec. 14 at the Salvation Army.
Drop box locations can be found on the Toys for Tots Website, www.toysfortots.org.
